MANILA, Philippines - The Army yesterday recovered three firearms and improvised explosive devices after a brief encounter with suspected communist rebels in Bulusan, Sorsogon.
Acting Army spokesman Maj. Harold Cabunoc said the clash ensued after their field units got reports that suspected insurgents had been harassing residents of Tinampo village in Bulusan town.
Cabunoc said the complaints from civilians prompted Col. Felix Castro, commander of the Army’s 903rd Infantry Brigade, to send troops to the area.
A seven-man Army team was about to approach the place when they were fired upon by about 10 suspected New People’s Army rebels. – Alexis Romero, Celso Amo
