Couple, 5 children axed to death

PAGADIAN CITY, Philippines – A couple, three of their children and two other kids were axed to death by a mentally-ill man Wednesday afternoon in Barangay Tikwas, Dumalinao, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Senior Superintendent Jose Gucela said a police report received at Camp Abelon here identified the victims as Fernando Macadilig, 30; his wife Annabel, 27; their children Maricel, 10, Mary Ann, 7, and Angela, 4, and their playmates Robinson Veraly, 8, and his brother Robert, 6.

The assailant, Jun Rubio, 23, was gunned down by responding policemen.

Gucela said reports showed that Rubio first barged into the house of the Macadilig couple, who were in the kitchen preparing the family’s dinner and hit them with a small ax. Both husband and wife, who suffered gaping wounds in different parts of their bodies, died instantly.

The suspect then attacked three of the Macadilig children and the Veraly siblings who were playing at the yard, killing all of them on the spot.

The assailant had tried to escape. However, responding policemen fired warning shots even as they tried to convince Rubio to give himself up.

Rubio, however, even attempted to attack the law enforcers, who were forced to shoot him. He was hit on the chest, which caused his death.
