2 rob suspects dead in shootout

MANILA, Philippines - Two men were killed yesterday in an encounter with policemen hours after they pulled off two armed robberies in Laguna. One of their companions managed to escape the police dragnet.

Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, Laguna police director, identified one of the slain suspects as Ronnie Elardo, of Barangay Malaban, Biñan City.

The slain suspects yielded two caliber .38 revolvers they used in the robberies in Biñan City, said Cruz.

Police also recovered the items they had stolen and the tricycle they used in their activities.

In General Trias, Cavite, three hijacking suspects were killed when they shot it out with policemen last Friday afternoon.   – Non Alquitran, Ed Amoroso
