13-year-old honor student hangs self

BARILI, Cebu, Philippines  – Disappointed that his parents have separated, a 13-year-old honor student at Barangay Maghanoy Elementary School in Barili town committed suicide by hanging himself on a mango tree at the back of his school last Wednesday afternoon.

Motorcycle-riding men who found him hanging from the tree with a nylon rope looped around his neck rushed him to the Barili District Hospital but he could no longer be saved.

 Zizelyn Balucos, the school’s guidance counselor said the boy always wished that his mother and father, who now have families of their own, will be together again.

 The boy told at least two of his classmates he would commit suicide if they leave him. But the classmates left him alone thinking he was just joking. A few hours later, he was found hanging on the tree.

 The second of the three children, the boy grew up with two other siblings with his grandmother.
