BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – Crop damage due to typhoon “Pedring” in Cagayan Valley has hit P1 billion according to provincial officials.
Isabela crops bore the brunt of Pedring followed by Nueva Ecija, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya and Cagayan. The region account for at least 20 percent of the country’s rice and corn produce.
Isabela Gov. Faustino Dy said crop and infrastructure damage in his province was placed at P752 million, of which P692 million was for palay.
Agathon Pagbilao, provincial disaster action officer in Quirino said crop damage in their province is worth P288 million.
Nueva Vizcaya lost P213.6 million worth of crops from at least 24,000 hectares of farmlands while initial estimate of Cagayan’s damaged crops is at P200 million.
