Jealousy drives man to kill lover, 3 others

MANILA, Philippines - Jealousy drove a man to knife and ax to death his girlfriend and three others, including a four-year-old boy, in Zamboanga del Sur on Monday, police said yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Jose Gucela, Zamboanga del Sur police director, identified the victims as Elizabeth Ybañez, 58; Caren Andohon, 23; Cherry Mae Saquilabon, 16; and four-year-old John Ryan Silario.

Gucela said the suspect, Vincent de la Peña, managed to escape after the incident before dawn Monday in Barangay Bogayo, Kumalarang town.

Gucela said De la Peña got jealous after Saquilabon, his girlfriend, entertained a lesbian.

Prior to the massacre, Gucela said the suspect and some of the victims had a drinking bout where witnesses saw the lovers quarreled.

Police said De la Peña then left the place but returned a few hours later and attacked the victims. He escaped but left the knife and ax. – Cecille Suerte Felipe, Roel Pareño
