Bulacan seeks revival of Manila Bay coastal project

GUIGUINTO, Bulacan, Philippines - – The long abandoned Manila Bay coastal road project gained support from businessmen, saying it is the key to the establishment of an economic zone in the province.

The Bulacan Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the coastal road is among the major infrastructure projects needed to boost economy in the province.

Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino Alvarado said the Manila Bay coastal road, which was part of the 25-year development plan of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, will not only expand business areas in the province, but also solve the perennial flooding not only in Bulacan but also in Metro Manila, Pampanga and Bataan.

“It’s like hitting two birds with one stone, because it will not just open business opportunities, it will also help us mitigate impacts of climate change to the coastal communities along Manila Bay,” he said.

He said the coastal road project will also link the industrial centers in Sangley Point in Cavite and the Subic Bay in Zambales and dramatically reduce travel time between provinces.
