Student killed in grenade blast
LAOAG CITY, Philippines – A student was killed while four others were critically wounded in a grenade explosion in Bangui town in Ilocos Norte.
Police identified the fatality as Billy Joel Vidad, a native of Claveria, Cagayan a student of Bangui Institute of Technology (BIT).
Herbert Udon, Jomar Macarandong; Marites Dalija and Joy Lyn Lorenzo who are also students of the BIT were seriously injured.
Investigation showed the grenade exploded in Vidad’s hand as the four injured victims scampered for safety.
Vidad was holding the grenade while quarreling with Udon and Macarandong at the porch of a boarding house.
Dalija and Lorenzo came in just as Vidad opened the pin of the grenade.
Udon and Macarandong were brought to the Governor Ablan Memorial Hospital for surgery after initial treatment in a local clinic, while the two girls are undergoing treatment at the Bangui District Hospital.
