ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Flash floods have hit three villages in the city’s eastern coast in the past three days, sweeping away at least 26 houses, authorities said.
The abnormal downpour has been hitting the highland area, causing rivers and swamps in the villages of Quinipot, Bongiao and Manga Bolong to swell.
“The floodwaters suddenly rose up to about five feet, sending residents panicking and fleeing to higher grounds for their safety,” said Quinipot village chairman Bibing Paragas.
