MANILA, Philippines - Four earthquakes rocked parts of Visayas before dawn yesterday but there were no reports of damage or injuries, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said the first tremor with magnitude 3.6 was recorded at 12:24 a.m. with its epicenter traced at 148 kilometers southwest of Bago City, Negros Occidental. It was felt at Intensity 3 in Sipalay City and Cauayan, Negros Occidental and Intensity 2 in Iloilo City.
The second tremor measuring magnitude 5.2 occurred at 12:43 a.m. and was centered some 73 kms southwest of Cauayan. It was felt at Intensity 4 in Sipalay City and Intensity 3 in Cauayan and Iloilo City.
Another quake measuring magnitude 4.8 struck at 1:40 a.m. and was traced at 79 kms southwest of Cauayan. The tremor was felt at Intensity 3 in Sipalay City and Cauayan and Intensity 2 in Iloilo City.
The fourth earthquake with magnitude 3.5 happened at 10:10 a.m. with the epicenter traced at 77 kms southwest of Cauayan. It was felt at Intensity 2 in Sipalay and Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental.
Phivolcs said about 20 earthquakes hit the country everyday but only a few are felt.
