Army captures two NPA camps in Agusan del Norte
MANILA, Philippines - Sustained operations of the Philippine Army against the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in Northern Mindanao has resulted to the capture two rebel camps in Agusan del Norte, the military reported yesterday.
Maj. Eugenio Julio Osias IV, spokesman of the 4th Infantry Division in Camp Evangelista, Cagayan de Oro City said that two captured NPA camps are located at Sitio Malanay, Barangay Sangay, Buenavista town.
Osias said government troopers captured the NPA camps without firing a single shot during last Wednesday’s proactive anti-insurgency operations in the area. The two NPA enclaves by rebels belonging to the guerilla front committee 4A headed by a certain Ka Joker were found abandoned.
“The two rebel camps can accommodate 120 persons at one given time,” Osias said.
Osias said rebels also left bundles of documents of high-intelligence value, including coded names of their contacts and supporters.
He said pursuit operations are still continuing against the rebels to keep the communist group off balance and deter them from executing their planned atrocities.
