SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines – Gov. Lilia Pineda has called on other governors in Central Luzon to put up a common landfill, as the region’s mounting volume of garbage was blamed for the widespread flooding in this province recently.
“It was obvious in the aftermath of tropical storm ‘Falcon’ that Pampanga has become a catch basin for the floodwaters of Central Luzon, particularly those from Nueva Ecija and Aurora,” Pineda said.
The recent flooding in Pampanga has left some P300 million in infrastructure damage and agricultural losses.
Pineda said she would invite the governors of Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Bulacan, Tarlac and Zambales to a meeting on her proposal for a sanitary landfill to serve the needs of the entire region.
