1 killed, 42 injured in Isabela road mishap
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya ,Philippines – A worker of a bio-ethanol plant was killed and 42 others were injured when the truck they were riding turned turtle in an interior town in Isabela Friday morning, police said.
Police said Eugene Leoncio, a resident of Barangay Zone 1, San Mariano, sustained fatal injuries in the accident while he and his fellow workers were on their way from the town proper to the bio-ethanol plant in the village of Binatug.
Reports said the truck’s brakes suddenly failed while cruising a curved stretch of the road going to the bio-ethanol plant.
The injured workers were still undergoing treatment in several hospitals in the province.
The truck driver, Leoncio Baldoz, is now under police custody while charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple physical injuries are being readied against him.
