3 killed, 8 injured in Cavite road mishap
CAVITE ,Philippines – Three people were killed and at least eight others were injured when a cargo truck went wayward and slammed into five vehicles in Alfonso town last Friday afternoon, police said.
Chief Inspector Egbert Tibayan, Alfonso police chief, identified the fatalities as bystander Enuario Rom, 68; and truck helpers Michael Lolor, 20, and Nick Dollete, 47.
Among those injured were Randy Suason, Nepthalie Guinipapa, Albert Aurelia, Lugie Basas, Eduardo Anselmo, Marvin Acuzar and the truck driver Robert Calaranan.
Police said Calaran was driving a sand-loaded trailer truck heading toward Magallanes town when he lost control of the wheels along the national road in Barangay Kaytitinga at around 1 p.m. Friday.
The wayward truck hit Rom, killing him instantly, before ramming into five vehicles.
Lolor and Dollete and eight other fellow helpers riding on top of the truck were thrown away after the collision. Lolor and Dollete died while being treated at the Dr. Poblete Memorial Hospital.
Calaran was brought to the Alfonso police station for investigation.
