DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Two soldiers were killed while four others were wounded in an ambush by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Laak, Compostela Valley yesterday morning, the military said.
Maj. Jake Obligado said the soldiers were providing security to an anti-illegal logging team of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Barangay Belmonte, Laak town when they were attacked.
Those killed were identified as Pfcs. Jefferson Galang and Werlito de Claro, both of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Battalion, and those wounded as Pfcs. Jaime Rionda, Joey Bastian, Reynaldo Villamor, and Jason Valdez. – Edith Regalado, Alexis Romero
