15 Caraga schools seek increase in tuition, fees

- Ben Serrano -

BUTUAN CITY , Philippines-   Nine private and government-owned colleges and universities in the Caraga region have sought a minimum 10 percent tuition hike while six others wanted to increase school fees by 10 percent or less.

“(This) means incoming enrollees will pay 10 percent more in tuition and other school fees compared to (what) they paid last year,” said Dr. Julius Jamero, chief administrative officer of the Commission on Higher Education’s Caraga regional office here.

Jamero said some of the schools though are seeking an increase in tuition and fees by less than 10 percent.

Among the schools seeking tuition hike for school year 2011-2012 are the Fr. Saturnino Urios University, Asian College Foundation and St. Joseph Institute of Technology, all based here; De La Salle John Bosco College and Southern Technological Institute of the Philippines, both in Bislig City; STI College and Surigao Education Center, both in Surigao City; New Northern Mindanao Colleges in Cabadbaran City; and Agusan del Sur Colleges in Bayugan City.
