Ormoc City trader wins P43-million lotto jackpot

Manila, Philippines - A 54-year-old businessman from Ormoc City in Leyte has claimed the P43,017,156.80 jackpot of the May 13 draw of the 6/49 Super Lotto, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said yesterday.

Jose Ferdinand Rojas II, PCSO general manager, said the businessman got the winning combination of 19-26-38-16-29-14, which he said represents the birthdays and other significant events of his family members.

“The winner hit the prize three days after his birthday,” Rojas said.

He said the winner bought his ticket from a lotto outlet at the Gaisano Mall in Ormoc City.

Meanwhile, the P249,671,970 jackpot of the 6/55 Grand Lotto continues to increase after nobody hit the winning combination in last Wednesday’s draw.

Rojas said the jackpot for tomorrow’s draw is expected to reach P270 million.

At least 18 players won the second jackpot prize of P150,000 for getting five winning numbers.

PCSO Chairperson Margarita Juico said the bigger jackpot prize would be a boost to the agency’s charity programs.

“The (bigger) the jackpot prize, the more charity funds to help the medical needs of the poor and the needy,” she said.

Juico said 30 percent of the net sales would go to the PCSO’s charity fund.
