Gun-for-hire arrested in Abra

- Artemio Dumlao -

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines  – Abra police cornered a suspected gun-for-hire Saturday afternoon in Bangued, Abra’s capital town, probably lessening and perhaps sending a stern warning that authorities are not “sleeping on their jobs” against “private armed groups”.

Abra police spokesperson Senior Inspector Angelito Dangli Jr. said Jaworski Ayaba, 31, from Alaoa, Tineg town, was collared in Barangay Calaba, Bangued. Ayaba is wanted by the law for three separate murder cases, said Dangli Jr., though not naming who he killed and when, including whose ward is he in, among the rival political leaders in the province.

The suspected gun-for-hire is now at the Abra provincial jail and is scheduled to be tried at the sala of Regional Trial Court Branch 2 Judge Corpus Alzate. But as policemen were handcuffing the gun-for hire, another killing occurred in Zone 7, Santiago St., also in the province’s capital.

Assassins gunned down a 65-year-old public works time keeper Rogelio Fabian for still unknown reason. The gunmen who were reportedly riding in tandem pumped at least five bullets into Fabian felling him instantly.

The killing is the latest among the already “normal” everyday phenomenon in the province left unabated.
