BALAOAN, La Union, Philippines – A 14-year-old girl was found yesterday buried naked beside a creek near her house in Barangay Pagbennecan this town with several stab wounds in different parts of her body.
Senior Inspector Benjamin Diagan, the town’s police chief, identified the girl as Darren Asuncion, a second year student at a private high school here.
Diagan told The STAR that the girl’s body was found by a neighbor three days after she was reported missing Sunday when she attended Mass at the Catholic Church in the town proper.
“A neighbor named Phillip Ledda, allegedly smelled foul odor while he was near the creek until he suddenly saw one of the legs of the girl exposed outside from a waste pit where he was buried,” Diagan said.
Diagan said the girl’s body and neck bore several stab wounds and believed to have been raped as she was half naked wearing only a shirt.
“The body is already in a state of decomposition when found. We already have leads on the crime and we hope to solve the case sooner,” he said.
Diagan suspected that the girl’s assailant is familiar to her.
“We are still in the process of identifying the suspect whom we believe was alone when he did this crime. We are now evaluating statements from witnesses and from her relatives and neighbors,” he said.
