Davao cops' errand boy kills inmate

DAVAO CITY, Philippines  – An errand boy shot dead an inmate right inside the detention cell of the police station in Bansalan, Davao del Sur yesterday morning. 

Senior Superintendent Ronald de la Rosa, Davao del Sur police director, said the suspect, Gibsam Fernandez, shot Restituto Malait with the service pistol of SPO2 Florante Mancera.

Mancera, the officer-on-duty at the police station then, left his caliber .45 pistol on a table in the radio room as he was taking his breakfast, De la Rosa said.

De la Rosa said Fernandez and Malait reportedly had an altercation prior to the shooting. Fernandez escaped after the incident.
