P.5 M reward up BIR executive's killer

- Non Alquitran -

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Internal Revenue has offered a P500,000 reward for the capture of the gunman in the killing of a BIR official in Antipolo City on Feb. 17.

Calabarzon police director Chief Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao Jr. said the BIR reward raised to P800,000 the bounty for the capture of Armando Cariño, alias Manding, who went into hiding after the killing of Marcelino Yap, 46, the BIR’s regional district officer.

Pagdilao said BIR Commissioner Kim Henares made the reward offer during a recent meeting with Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.

“Just want to inform you that the BIR have raised funds and is setting aside P500,000 for the capture of the assailant of RDO Yap,” said Robredo in his text message to Pagdilao.

The Calabarzon police chief noted that police effort to capture Cariño is a continuing process.

“We have two dedicated police teams going after Cariño. One of them is now in the province,” said Pagdilao in an interview.

Pagdilao is hoping that the additional BIR reward would motivate the public in reporting and helping the Philippine National Police in arresting Cariño, a native of Bicol and resident of Marikina City.

Earlier, Antipolo City Mayor Nilo Leyble offered P100,000 while Yap’s relatives offered P200,000 for information leading to the arrest of Cariño, who kept on eluding police dragnets for almost a month now.
