- Michelle Zoleta -

Candelaria, Quezon ,Philippines  – A former barangay captain was gunned down by two unidentified assassins at Barangay Malabanban Norte, this town, last Sunday.

Probers identified the fatality as Escorpion Dimayuga, 48 years old.

Dimayuga, who lost in his re-election bid during the barangay elections last year, worked as pit manager of LBD Sports Arena located at Barangay Mangilag Sur and owned by Leodigario Boongaling.

Initial investigation showed that at around 5:10 p.m. Sunday, after Dimayuga parked his vehicle at the sports arena’s gate to buy fish from a vendor before heading home, the suspects, who rode together aboard a motorcycle arrived.

He was shot repeatedly by the backrider at close range using a baby armalite.

The victim then fell to the ground and the suspects fled toward Maliwanag Subdivision in Barangay Malabanban Norte.

Dimayuga was rushed to United Candelaria Doctors Hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds on the head and other parts of the body.

Police said the motive behind the killing is still unknown, but they are studying the possibility that it is related to gambling activities in their town.
