Nude photo on Facebook puts cop recruit in trouble

- Cecille Suerte Felipe -

MANILA, Philippines - A police recruit in Western Visayas is in hot water for posting a nude male photo on his Facebook account.

The nude photo was removed from the recruit’s social network account but Western Visayas police director Chief Superintendent Cipriano Querol Jr. has ordered an investigation, warning that the neophyte policeman could be dismissed should evidence warrant.

“It was definitely uncalled for behavior of a police officer. It taints not only his reputation but also creates a bad image of the police force,” Querol said.

The police recruit, who is still undergoing basic training at the Regional Training School 6 in Bacolod City, posted a nude photo of a fellow recruit on his Facebook account, according to reports reaching Querol.

Querol withheld the name of the police recruit pending the investigation.

“We should also give him the benefit of the doubt that this photo was fabricated. With technology today, such a possibility is not remote,” he said.

Querol, however, said he has issued a directive to all his police unit commanders “to warn their personnel from uploading indecent photos, videos and other materials in their social network (accounts) and reminded them to make their computers and Internet access for official use only,” Querol said.

Querol called on the public to report to his office by texting to 0920-2230577 or e-mailing to [email protected] any information on social network sites, blogs, websites and other online sites of police personnel that contain indecent materials.
