Soldiers, cops mistake each other for rebs

MANILA, Philippines –  A soldier was killed while two of his colleagues and a policeman were wounded when Army and police elements mistook each other for communist rebels they were pursuing and engaged in a firefight in Trento, Agusan del Sur the other day.

Maj. Eugene Julio Osias IV, commander of the 4th Civil-Military Operations Battalion, said elements of the Army’s 75th Infantry Battalion and the police Provincial Mobile Group were conducting separate pursuit operations against rebels who seized a Trento policeman when they mistook each other for guerrillas and shot at each other in Barangay Salvacion.
