ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines  – A businessman and his five-year-old son were gunned down while another minor was wounded in Lamitan, Basilan Wednesday night, police said.

Senior Superintendent Cristeto Rey Gonzalodo, Basilan police director, said retailer Leo Antonio Magno and his son Jester were in their store in Barangay Magtibay when two motorcycle-riding men fired at them with M-16 rifles. Wounded in the left foot was 10-year-old Jonel Cuevas.

Gonzalodo said residents rushed the victims to the St. Peter Hospital but father and son died from multiple bullet wounds.

Police recovered 16 empty shells of 5.56 mm, standard ammunition for M-16 rifles.
