Police file murder case vs Talavera deputy chief

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga , Philippines   – Police yesterday filed murder charges against the killer of the chief of police of Talavera police station.

Senior Superintendent Valiant de Guzman, Police Regional Office-3 (PRO3) deputy regional director for administration, said that Nueva Ecija police have filed murder charges against suspect Inspector Bernardo Castro, deputy chief of police of Talavera.

De Guzman said that Castro may be dismissed from the service pending the outcome of the investigation being conducted by the Regional Investigation Division.

He said as of now, Castro is temporarily detained at the Camp Olivas Headquarters pending his investigation. 

As of yesterday, the suspect has not yet given his statement regarding the shooting incident. 

Superintendent Ricardo Dayag Jr. went outside the police station after he heard two gunshots to verify who fired a gun, said Senior Superintendent Roberto Aliggayu, Nueva Ecija police director in a report here.

The victim saw Castro and told him to “surrender his gun” to him. 

But, the suspect instead shot Dayag, hitting him at his knee. 

Dayag who was already wounded was shot successively by the suspect and emptied his .9mm caliber pistol magazine, said Aliggayu. 

The victim died of multiple gunshot wounds in the different parts of the body and was taken to Paulio Jose Garcia Memorial Hospital extension in Talavera town where he was declared dead on arrival by attending doctor.

Nueva Ecija police have formed a team of investigators to conduct a thorough investigation on the said shooting to the death of Da­yag.
