Baguio fails in Guinness caroling bid
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – It must have been a bad year for Baguio’s tourism.
After the failed “snow show” that would have been an 18-day, 15-minute spectacle along Session Road, the city’s attempt to break a Guinness record for the biggest number of carolers also flopped Wednesday night.
Only more than 3,000 carolers were recorded, falling long way short of the Guinness feat of 7,514 carolers singing at the same time by South Carolina’s (USA) Bob Jones University in 2004.
Councilor Elmer Datuin, chairman of the city council’s tourism committee, said it is not yet Baguio’s time to snatch the record.
When the official count was made last Wednesday, it turned out that only more than 3,000 carolers, out of at least 8,000 registrants, turned out for the event, singing “Hark The Herald Angels Sing.”
Dubbed “Christmas Rhythm,” the caroling event was supposed to be the highlight of the “Paskua in Baguio” festivities.
