Actress' husband charged in fatal car mishap

- Ding Cervantes -

ANGELES CITY, Philippines – Police yesterday charged the pilot-husband of actress Sunshine Dizon with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide after his car hit and killed a 60-year-old Badjao grandmother along the MacArthur Highway here at around 11 p.m. last Monday.

Probers said the traffic light was on green mode when the northbound Ford Focus sports vehicle of Dizon’s husband John Timonty Tan, 24, sped by and hit the victim, Joara Alidane, who was crossing the highway in Barangay Balibago, this city’s tourist and commercial district.

The old woman, who hailed from Jolo, Sulu, died on the spot. She lived with her family on a bridge in Hensonville Subdivision here.

The front of Tan’s car was heavily dented by the impact, probers said.

Tan, according to a police report, left the scene but returned to give himself up to the police a few minutes later. He was expected to post bail yesterday.

Tan and Dizon met in Pampanga in November last year and got married in civil rites last March 10. They are reportedly slated to get married in church this December when Dizon’s father arrives from the United States.
