Winning multiple termers urged: Quit
MANILA, Philippines – An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday asked multi-termers among the winning barangay chairmen to resign now to avoid legal sanctions and be forced to step down.
“That is the most graceful and principle way of exit for them,” said Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento.
He said the Comelec would not let go of those who have sought re-election in the Oct. 25 barangay polls despite meeting the three-term limit for elective officials.
He said the Comelec would no longer wait for the cases to be filed by concerned individuals or parties to work for the annulment of the proclamation of these officials.
