Isabela barangay head, ma shot dead

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines -  A newly elected barangay chairman in Isabela and his mother were gunned down by a motorcycle-riding assailant before noon yesterday.

Police said Alfredo Salvador, 56, proclaimed barangay chairman of Alicia town’s Barangay Sikat, and his 70-year-old mother, Virginia, were on board a tricycle to visit a relative when they were shot in neighboring Barangay Bagnos.

Unknown to mother and son, the gunman reportedly followed them from their residence to the national highway where he overtook their tricycle and fired at them.   

The gunman, police said, fled northward through the Alicia-San Mateo Road.
