No word yet from Zamboanga kidnappers

- Roel Pareño -

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – The police and military have mounted a wide search in the Zamboanga peninsula and nearby Lanao provinces for the whereabouts of a 55-year-old woman and her 10-year-old grandson who were kidnapped in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur last Saturday.

“There has been no reported contact from the kidnappers so far,” said Senior Superintendent Elmer Escosia, Zamboanga del Sur police director.

Escocia said joint intelligence and investigative operations by the police and military are ongoing to locate the kidnap victims.

The victims were in their house when three men and a woman barged in shortly before midnight Saturday and seized the old woman and her grandson while tying up her husband and a houseboy. The latter two managed to untie themselves and reported the incident to authorities.

Police recovered the getaway vehicle, an Isuzu Trooper, in Tukuran town, near the Lanao del Sur boundary.
