DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least three Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) here are sure winners as they are also the only three voters in their barangay.
In Barangay Biao Joaquin in Calinan District this city, only three have registered to vote in today’s SK polls – the candidates themselves.
Only three 15- to 17-year-old voters have turned out to register in Barangay Biao Joaquin despite persistent calls from the incumbent barangay officials for teenagers in the community to participate in the political exercise.
The Commission on Elections provides that all that an unopposed candidate must do is for him to garner at least one vote in the SK elections.
Considered as virtual winners are Ivie Rose, who is vying for the top SK post in Barangay Biao Joaquin, and her fellow candidates Kristyl Caballero and Sara Canyedo, who are running for the SK kagawad.
There has also been a low turnout of registrants for today’s SK elections in other areas in the city.
In Barangay 6-A, there are only nine registered SK voters, and in Barangays Gatungan, Angliongto and Vicente Hizon, 21, 23 and 27, respectively.
Election officials said eligible SK voters in these barangays actually reach more than 100 voters each.
