10 nabbed for illegal mining in Laguna
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – At least 10 persons were arrested for illegal mining activities. Authorities confiscated nine dump trucks loaded with river sand during operation in Pila and Sta. Cruz, Laguna, law enforcers said yesterday.
Charges of violation of Section 103 of Republic Act. 7942, otherwise known as Philippine Mining Act of 1995 will be filed against arrested the suspects identified as Valentino Jovel June, Cefirino Trinidad Maon Jr, his helper Mark Anthony Cervantes, Wilfredo Alecha Manloof Jr. and Marvin Mango.
The other suspects were identified as Manolito Sanchez, Glendo Maribona, Honorato Mayuga, Rolando Dela Cruz and Petronilo Catapias.
Senior Superintendent Gilberto Cruz, Laguna police director, said informants told police that several dump trucks loaded with river sand and boulders were conducting illegal mining in three towns in Laguna, Saturday.
Cruz said police with elements of the Provincial Government Environmental Natural Resources led by Eriberto Dawinan were immediately dispatched to the area.
He said the suspects had no permits to undertake mining operation, causing the police to arrest them.
