Beer delivery truck kills Bicol professor
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – A research specialist and professor of the Bicol University’s Research and Productivity Center died on the spot when he was ran over by a beer delivery truck yesterday morning in Daraga, Albay.
Superintendent Enrico Bausa, Daraga police chief, identified the victim as Nestor Dullesco, 40, who was recently designated as coordinator of the newly established Intellectual Property Rights Unit, serving publishers, authors and inventors in the region, of the Bicol University.
Bausa said the speeding beer delivery truck hit Dullesco as he tried to pick an object on the middle of the road after he had parked his tricycle a few meters away in Barangay Tagas, Daraga town.
Bausa said the truck driver, Romeo Millare, tried to escape but was arrested by responding policemen in Barangay Rawis a few minutes after the accident.
Bausa said a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide was set to be filed against Millare, adding that the driver’s attempt to escape might aggravate his criminal liability.
Dullesco, a law graduate of Aquinas University here, was also teaching political science, aside from being active as a research official of Bicol University. He left behind his wife and three children.
