CALAPAN CITY, Philippines  – A group of residents in the southern part of Oriental Mindoro province, led by a former municipal mayor, has filed a court case against the secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways, its district engineer, and a private contractor for allegedly altering the landscape of the province in connection with the ongoing road construction in the Strong Republic Nautical Highway in the said province.

Named respondents in the case jointly filed by ex-Bansud mayor Prudente Soller, his wife Preciosa, and two other private lot owners are DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson, Oriental Mindoro second district engineer Magtanggol Roldan, contractor Engr. Elegio Malaluan and his company Kings’ Builders and Development Corp.

In their complaint filed at the regional trial court branch in Pinamalayan, said province, Soller’s group stated they are severely being affected by the ongoing road development being done by the DPWH and Malaluan’s company in the highway part of southern Oriental Mindoro, especially in Bansud town where the complainants’ privately-owned lots are located.
