Councilor, 4 others die in Masbate ambush

LEGAZPI CITY , Philippines -  – Unidentified armed men ambushed an owner-type jeep yesterday afternoon in San Pascual, Masbate, killing five persons, the police said.

Superintendent Eliciar Bron, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Bicol, said the ambush took place in Sitio Landing in Barangay Bolod at about 2:30 p.m.

Bron identified those killed as municipal councilor Winceslao Sinagpulo Jr., a Baptist pastor Jun-jun Aragon, the driver Rael Hermoso Ponte and two others.

Bron said the victims were on board the vehicle owned by barangay captain Manuel Hermosa.

The new Masbate police provincial director Senior Superintendent Tom Semeniano is still conducting an investigation, Bron said.
