6 robbery suspects shot dead

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Six suspected members of a robbery-holdup gang were killed while a policeman was wounded in a shootout in Biñan, Laguna Wednesday night, authorities said. 

Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, Laguna police director, identified three of the six slain suspects as Joey Llagas, 25; Severino Abotok; and Jaime Segundo Jr. The three others have yet to be identified.

A Biñan policeman, PO1 Webster Ortiz, suffered bullet wounds in the right leg and left shoulder.

Reports said police received information from a concerned citizen that a group of men aboard two tricycles were preying on residents in Barangay San Antonio. 

Policemen subsequently chanced upon the group along the highway in Barangay San Francisco, but instead of stopping, the suspects fled, triggering a running gun battle until they were cornered at Irene Ville Subdivision.  – With Ed Amoroso, Non Alquitran
