Iloilo placed under state of calamity amid dengue outbreak
ILOILO CITY, Philippines – Iloilo is now under a state of calamity following a declaration by health officials of a province-wide dengue outbreak.
The provincial board unanimously approved a resolution placing the entire province under a state of calamity on Tuesday, as Gov. Arthur Defensor met with health officials and town mayors and urged them to give priority to anti-dengue measures.
In a statement, Dr. Patricia Grace Trabado, provincial health officer, said there has been a 114 percent increase in dengue cases in the province compared to last year. As of Aug. 10, 1,669 cases had been reported.
