Armyworms bring state of calamity to Quezon

- Michelle Zoleta -

LUCENA CITY, Philippines  – The Quezon provincial board led by Vice Gov. Vicente Alcala has declared a state of calamity for the whole province due to armyworms that have infested farmlands in 23 towns.

Gov. David Suarez sought the state of calamity, as the infestation has so far brought losses estimated at P71.6 million to palay, corn and vegetable growers.

Anna Pamela Agudilla, who chairs Task Force Kontra Uod, reported to Roberto Gajo, officer-in-charge of the provincial agriculturist’s office, that the towns of Dolores, Tiaong, Candelaria and Sariaya in the second district were the ones hit hard by armyworm infestation.
