Thousands stranded along Dalton Pass

- Charlie Lagasca -

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya , Philippines  – Thousands of commuters going to and from Cagayan Valley were stranded for more than six hours along the Dalton Pass section of the mountain highway in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija yesterday.

Reports said that the heavy traffic started about midnight after a trailer truck turned turtle in the middle of the national road along Carranglan town’s Barangay Digdig, which caused a major traffic jam until around 8 a.m.

According to Francisco Cabrito of this province, hundreds of vehicles had piled up along the stretch of the national highway linking Nueva Ecija to Nueva Vizcaya en route to Cagayan Valley.

“It was only after half a day when the traffic normalized. The heavy traffic was also aggravated by errant drivers trying to make their way until many vehicles piled up,” he said.

Said portion of the national highway has been beset by intermittent closure of traffic, which was usually caused by landslides as well as accidents along curved stretches.
