Special polls set Oct. 2

MANILA, Philippines - Five months after the May 10 polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said yesterday special polls will finally be conducted in some parts of Malolos City in Bulacan, Lanao del Sur and Basilan on Oct. 2.

“This time set would allow us to prepare for the special elections both in the systematic and human aspects,” Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said.

In Malolos, the special election involves the congressional post, which was not included in the May 10 polls due to the late issuance of a Supreme Court ruling nullifying the creation of a separate congressional district for the city.
