Laguna elected officials sworn in

- Ed Amoroso -

LAGUNA , Philippines  – Local winners in the May elections here led by re-elected Sta. Rosa Mayor Arlene Arcillas-Nazareno, with other newly elected city councilors took their oath of office yesterday.

Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Conchita Carpio-Morales administered the oath of office of Arcillas-Nazareno at the newly contructed Sta. Rosa Municipal Hall.

The Sta. Rosa town has become the industrial, commercial and residential hub of South Luzon, in what they described as the ‘New Makati,’ when Arcillas-Nazareno became city mayor in 2007.

As the hub of industrialization, the town is now the center of development for three master planned communities – Eton City of the Lucio Tan Group, Nuvali of Ayala Land and Greenfield City of the Greenfield Development Corp.

Arcillas-Nazareno who ran under the Lakas-Kampi party posted a majority victory against her opponent, former mayor Jose Catindig during the 2010 polls. Her running mate, Arnel Gomez won in the vice mayoralty race over incumbent Vice Mayor Manuel Alipon. Ex-Pagsanjan mayor Emilio Ramon Ejercito took his oath of office as Laguna governor at the Rizal Shrine in Calamba City, yesterday afternoon. Ejercito bested his opponents former Laguna governor Joey Lina, and Dennis Lazaro, son of outgoing Laguna governor Teresita “Ningning” Lazaro.
