PhilHealth president launches book June 17

MANILA, Philippines - Dr. Jesus Reynaldo Aquino, president and chief executive officer of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), will formally launch for the second time his book “My Story to Tell: A Memoir of San Fernando Pampanga’s Last Municipal Mayor and First City Mayor” on June 17 at the Capangpangan Restaurant in the City of San Fernando.

The book is now available at selected National Bookstores nationwide and co-published and distributed by Media Touchstones Ventures Inc.

The book delves into the life and times of Aquino: his childhood, parents, family, medical and political career and his present contributions as incumbent president of the country’s largest medical insurance institution.

As a biography, it discusses the many facets of Aquino’s life, which portrays him as a family man, loyal friend, loving husband and father, dedicated doctor, progressive politician and leader, as well as a talented musician and artist.

A surgeon by specialization, Aquino served as vice mayor from 1992 to 1995 and as three-term mayor of San Fernando from 1995 to 2004. He was elected congressman of the province’s third district in 2004.

It was during his term as mayor when San Fernando, then the capital town of Pampanga, was officially converted into a component city on Feb. 4, 2001.

He became president and chief executive officer of ASCORP Inc. (2004-2007), a family-owned corporation engaged in agro-industrial business and leasing.

A civic leader honed in the Jaycee movement, he also sits as president and chairman of Project REY (Reading Excellence for the Youth Foundation of Pampanga Inc.), a two-time Ford Foundation guarantee since 2000 engaged in a literacy program for the training of teachers and production of workbooks for reading in English and Filipino for public elementary school students in the City of San Fernando, and pilot schools in the third district of Pampanga.
