Aide of Batangas mayor killed

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines  – A supporter of incumbent Ibaan Mayor Reming Hernandez was killed while his brother was wounded in a shooting incident inside their house which is near a sugarcane plantation in Sitio Pakalat,Barangay Munting Tubig, Batangas, early yesterday morning.

The victim identified as Ronnie Madera, 22, died from multiple gunshot wounds while his brother Reygan Madera,18, was rushed to the Batangas Regional Hospital due to sustained gunshot wounds at his buttocks and right ankle. According to report, the shooting occurred at around 10 a.m. when two unidentified armed men arrived at the Maderas residence and opened fire at them after the victims refused to receive the offered cash amount of P3,000 in exchange for their votes.

Madera’s wife, Iris, told the authorities, that the house they are occupying is owned by a certain Loring Sison, an aunt of Juan ‘Danny’ Toreja, candidate for mayor in Ibaan, while her family is a well-known supporter of Hernandez. The gunmen fled on foot towards Barangay Rizal, Lipa City, Batangas.     

Police recovered one empty shell of .45 caliber and four empty shells for 9mm caliber. Police are still investigating the incident to determine those behind the crime.
