Disqualification case vs Pacquiao junked
ALABEL, Sarangani , Philippines – The Commission on Elections has junked the disqualification case filed against Manny Pacquiao, allowing the Filipino ring icon to run for Congress representing the lone district of Sarangani, the People’s Champ Movement (PCM) said yesterday.
In a statement, PCM lead legal counsel Minveles Gulle said the case was dismissed as it was filed beyond the prescribed period of 25 days after the last day of filing of certificates of candidacy last Dec. 1.
“Yes, it was dismissed having been filed out of time, and after we have proven that Pacquiao, by his own acts and actuations, has changed his domicile from General Santos City to Sarangani,” Gulle said.
She said it is now the turn of Pacquiao’s rival, Roy Chiongbian, of the Sarangani Reconciliation and Reformation Organization, to disprove the disqualification case that the PCM filed against him, also on the residency question.
Gulle said the PCM presented evidence that Chiongbian is actually a resident of Ayala Alabang in Muntinlupa City, where he helps run several family-owned companies.
