Supreme Court frees 6 Abra inmates

- Artemio Dumlao -

BANGUED, Abra, Philippines – Chief Justice Reynato Puno freed six inmates during the Abra leg of the Justice on Wheels program of the Supreme Court (SC) here last April 16.

The SC conducted a speedy trial of 12 cases, five of which were dismissed outright. Three other cases were successfully mediated, and four were left for mediation.

Aside from hearing the cases, the SC justices held a symposium at the Divine Word College of Bangued gymnasium on the various legal aspects.

They also took time to visit inmates at the Abra provincial jail and check their conditions, and meet with local judges, court employees and residents of Abra and Ilocos Sur at the provincial capitol’s Social Hall.

Abrenos showed special concern on the safety of pieces of evidence and records kept at the Bangued regional trial court, where a break-in was reported a week before the SC justices came here.
