AboitizPower adds generation capacity in Mindanao

-

MANILA, Philippines - AboitizPower Corp. has augmented its generation capacity in the Mindanao grid with the construction of the 42.5-megawatt Sibulan hydropower project.

The project is composed of two cascading run-of-river hydropower plants that will harness the Sibulan and Baroring rivers in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

The first of two plants is already running and generating 26 MW.

Construction of the second plant is ongoing and it is expected to generate 16.5 MW when finished.

The project is one of the largest investments of AboitizPower in the hydropower generation business.

The Sibulan hydropower project is registered under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project that will sell certified emission reduction units to industrialized countries.

The Sibulan hydropower project is the only CDM-registered hydropower project in the country.
