Mapua student dies in Cavite hazing
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines – A 19-year-old engineering freshman of the Mapua Institute of Technology died after going through a fraternity hazing in Trece Martires, Cavite Thursday night, police said.
Senior Superintendent Primitivo Tabujara, Cavite police director, said the victim, Daniel Lorenz Jacinto, a resident of Imus town, was declared dead on arrival at the MB Santiago Medical Center in Cavite.
Jacinto sustained severe bruises on his thighs and other parts of the body, police said.
Six other Mapua students, who rushed Jacinto to the hospital, were arrested. They were identified as Emil John Villanueva, 19; Ronnie Mozo, 19; Glenn Angelo Mansilla, 20; John Arman Canicosa, 19; Paulo Alvarez, 22; and Marco Polo Sarlo, 21.
Investigators said the arrested students, who declined to give details on Jacinto’s death, will be charged with violation of the Anti-Hazing Law. – With Ed Amoroso
