Jobless voters urged to assess candidates wisely
SAN FERNANDO, La Union , Philippines – Lakas-Kampi-CMD senatorial bet Ramon Getsko Guico, president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines urged yesterday the nearly three million jobless Filipinos to carefully and intelligently assess the credentials of the candidates before casting their votes on May 10.
Guico said that jobless and underemployed voters should think of their future when they vote, stressing that they must choose a candidate who has concrete economic plans since a country’s good economic standing means generating more jobs for its people.
“This country does not need popular leaders, what this country needs are political leaders who have a sense of direction – who have concrete plans in moving this country forward and who know how to implement them,” said Guico.
Records from the National Statistics Office showed that there are 2.8 million jobless Filipinos while another 7.1 million are underemployed.
Guico said that the number of unemployed and underemployed is nearly enough to elect a set of new national leaders, from president down to senators, making them a strong force that could make a difference on May 10.
Guico, tagged as the Mayor’s mayor for being the president of the LMP for nine years is running on a platform of “bring local issues to the national forefront” and providing faster and effective services to the local scene.
