Love angle probed in GenSan newsman's slay

- Ramil Bajo -

KORONADAL CITY , Philippines  – Police investigators are studying if a love triangle had something to do with the killing of a newspaper columnist who was found dead in the compound of a radio station in General Santos City Saturday night.

Police considered love triangle as one of the possible motives in the slay of Chito Abuzo, a regular columnist of Sapol, after the interview of his nephew in one of the radio stations there.

Sapol is a local vernacular tabloid based in General Santos City and circulated in South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City.

Abuzo was found dead in the compound of radio station dxGS before midnight Saturday.

Arnel Abuzo, nephew of the slain mediaman, told Bombo Radyo GenSan that his uncle had long been separated from his wife, who lived in Manila since they separated 20 years ago.

Arnel said the last time they talked, his uncle told him that he had affairs with two women in Malungon, Sarangani and General Santos City.

Arnel said he was “shocked” when he learned that his uncle was killed because the latter did not mention any threats to his life.

Senior Superintendent Marcelo Pintac, General Santos City police chief, said they have identified a suspect but refused to reveal it pending completion of their investigation.

Pintac said they are also looking into other motives behind the killing.

“Our police are working on it. We are not sleeping on it. We are really doing our best to solve it so that justice could be served to Abuzo’s family,” he said.
